UP Solidaridad-Diliman to hold Journalism and Literature skills training on September 1 and 15

UP Solidaridad, the official systemwide alliance of campus publications and writers’ organizations in Diliman shall hold this year’s mid-semester writers workshop with a twist. Since it was first founded in 2002, the alliance has made a series of skills training on journalism with the goal of continuing solidarity among member publications within UP Diliman.

This year’s writers’ workshop aims to hone not just the journalistic skills but also the literary skills of writers in the member publications. The alliance shall hold a two-day workshop on September 1 (for journalism) and September 15 (for literature) at the College of Arts and Letters New Building. Invited speakers are media practitioners and established writers in the academe and industry:

For September 1, 2012
• John Alliage Moralles, GMA News (on News Writing and Data Journalism)
• Kenneth Gud, Pinoy Weekly (on Editorial Writing)
• Alaysa Escandor, GMA News (on Features Writing)

For September 15, 2012
• Eros Atalia, UST (Prose writing)
• Vladimier Gonzales, DFPP (Creative Non-fiction)
• Vijae Alquisola, CEGP (Satire writing)
• Reuel Aguila, DFPP (Pagsulat ng Tula)

Amid the crisis of campus repression and media censorship in many publications outside the university, UP Solidaridad-Diliman continues to resist within these forces with its main thrust to maintain campus press freedom, re-establish closed student publications and preserve ties among existing student publications in Diliman and other constituent units such as in Visayas and Mindanao.

Those interested to join on September 15 are required to submit a literary page of a sample poem from their publication or of their own writing before September 12 to John Toledo, the Consul-General of UP Solidaridad-Diliman.
